He met Alvena Clara Becking while working for the Armour State Bank in Armour, South Dakota. He was a veteran of WWI. In Menomonee Falls, WI he practiced law and served as Justice of the Peace.  He died on Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and was laid to rest on his own Mother’s birthday.  Alvena Meyer graduated from Lake Forest College, Cosmopolitan School of Music in Chicago, Illinois in 1912.  She taught music at Armour High School in Armour, South Dakota.

OBITUARY - MEYER
William C. Meyer was born November 15, 1850, in Bonzon; Germany, and when eighteen years of age he came to this country locating at Loganville where he clerked in a store until his marriage to Marie Richter on August 5, 1884, when he came to Reedsburg. For many years he worked in John Crook’s hardware store and the Big Store where he won many friends and a wide circle of acquaintances who will greatly miss him. He also leaves a widow and three children; Walter who attends school at Ann Arbor, Mich., Edwin and Freda at home, and two brothers Henry of the town of Washington and Fred of Loganville. For some time he has been in poor health and died November 22, 1911, at the age of 61 years, 7 days. The funeral was held Saturday from the St. Peters church.

Mrs. William Meyer Dies Sunday at 81
Mrs. William Meyer passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, after an illness of one day, at the age of 81 years. She is survived by a daughter and two sons, Mrs. Leo (Frieda) Vining, of Marysville, Ohio, Edwin W. Meyer of this city, and Walter H. Meyer of Menomonie Falls, Wis. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Edwin Meyer home on Park street. The Rev. Carl Schinnerer conducted the last rites. Marie Sophie Ricther was born on Feb. 16, 1859 in Uelzen, Hanover, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richter. She came to this city from Germany in 1868 with her parents and has lived here since except for several years during which she worked in Chicago prior to her marriage. In 1884 she was married to William Meyer at Loganville. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1911.

City Man Dies After Pushing Car
Edwin W. Meyer, 61, Reedsburg, died suddenly Wednesday evening, Dec. 31 apparently following a heart attack after trying to push his car out of a ditch on highway 16 about 6 miles east of Wisconsin Dells. A passing motorist, who is a doctor, found Mr. Meyer dead in his car. He said death was due to overexertion. Mr. Meyer was born in Reedsburg on Sept. 29, 1897. He operated a photo studio here for 25 years. Until about a year ago he was employed at Badger Ordinance Works. For 6 years of his life he had lived in Chicago. Surviving are his wife, Luella; a son, Donald, Minneapolis; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Vining, Columbus, O.; a brother, Walter, Menomonee Falls; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2pm in the Phelps funeral home with Rev. Royal Saterlee officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

DIED-Meyer
Mr. Fred Meyer, who resided one mile north of Loganville, died Monday night at his home, aged 77 years. Mr. Meyer had been in failing health since last Spring but had only been confined to his bed for a couple of days. He is survived by his wife, one son Paul and two daughters, Mrs. Edwin Elfers and Mrs. Herman Kohlmeyer. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Loganville, conducted by Rev. Meyr.

Mr. Henry J. Meyer, an old resident farmer whose home was east of Sandusky, died Saturday evening about 9 o’clock aged eighty years. The funeral was held yesterday at 1 o’clock at Sandusky. An obituary will appear next week.

Sandusky Resident Passes Away at Home Saturday
Johann Henry Meyer was born at Bornsen, Hanover, Germay, April 17, 1845. He emigrated to America alone at the age of seventeen years, in 1862. Oct. 13, 1867 he was married to Dorothea Kuecker. To this union twelve children, four sons and eight daughters were born, two of them preceded their father in death. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by 54 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one brother, Fred, of Loganville. Mr. Meyer died at his home east of Sandusky, Saturday evening at about 9 o’clock. The funeral was held last Wednesday at 1 o’clock at Sandusky. Many beautiful floral offerings by friends and neighbors testified to the esteem in which Mr. Meyer was held. He was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran church in the town of Washington for 23 years. The surviving children are: Mrs. Chris Prange of Reedsburg; Mrs. Ed Winter, Port Huron, Mich.; Mrs. Jacob Kolba, Turtle Lake; Mrs. Theodore Brandt, Lime Ridge; George H., Silas and Henry Meyer, Lime Ridge; Mrs. Simon Brandt, Wonewoc, and Mrs. Al Steinway, Reedsburg. Two children who preceded him in death were: Mrs. Robert Krueger and Simon Meyer.

Old Resident In Town Of Washington Dies
Mrs. Dorothea Meyer, widow of the late Henry Meyer, died at her home east of Sandusky, Sunday, May 25, 1930, aged eighty years. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were old and respected residents of the town of Washington, living on a farm about two miles east of Sandusky. Mr. Meyer also did blacksmithing for many years. They were the parents of twelve children, one dying in infancy and Ida, (Mrs. Robert Krueger) dying in 1917. Mr. Meyer passed away five years ago. Besides her ten sons and daughters, Mrs. Meyer is survived by fifty-nine grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from St. Pauls Luthern church conducted by Rev. John Wienning.

Henry F. Meyer, aged 51 years, died at the County Hospital Tuesday, June 25, 1934. Funeral services were held Friday from the Lutheran Church at Hillpoint, conducted by Rev. Wiening.

On 21 Dec 1862 Mr. STOLTE was married to Dora MEYER, a native of the same
locality as her husband. She is a daughter of George and Dorothea
(REITZMANN) MEYER, who became residents of Sauk County, settling near
Loganville, where Mr. MEYER lived to the age of nearly 90 years, and his wife
to the age of 76 years. Mr. MEYER was born at Himbergen, Province of
Hanover, and spent several years in the Prussian army. He accompanied
Napolean's expedition to Moscow and was captured by the Russians, remaining a
prisoner in that country for two or three years. Of the nine children born
to Mr. and Mrs. STOLTE, one died in infancy. The survivors are: (1) Dora,
(2) Nana, (3) Louise, Mrs. E. H. MARRIOTT, of Baraboo [Sauk County, WI];
(4) Lida, (5) Lena, (6) Freda, (7) William, (8) Edward G. and (9)
George. All have enjoyed good educational advantages and each of the sons is
occupying a responsible position in business.

Meyer Family

Generation No. 1
1. George H. Meyer b. abt 1817 Hannover, Germany – d. 27 July 1883 HIllpoint, WI. Married Dorothea Burmester (b. 12 Feb 1820 Germany – d. 1892 Hillpoint, WI). George H. Meyer, Sr. was born in 1817 in Ebsth-Dorf, Hanover, Germany. He immmigrated to America in 1862. He was joined by his wife, Dorothea and sons Wilhelm and Friedrich. They used false names on the trip. Son Henry J., immigrated shortly before the others. Son George Jr. stayed in Germany. George Sr. was very ill most of the trip. He died on 27 July 1883. He was buried 1 Aug 1883 in Old St Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hillpoint, WI. Dates of birth and death are from the tombstone at the above cemetery. Listed in Volume 2, Cemetery Inscriptions of Sauk County, WI published by the Wisconsin State Old Cemetery Society, 1981. (Note in book, "Fancy wrought iron cross - name plate broken"). He was married to Dorothea Burmester about 1844 in Germany. She was born on 20 Feb 1820 in Germany. She immigrated in 1862 with her husband and two sons under false names. She died in 1892. She was buried in Old St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hillpoint, Wisconsin. Was very ill all the way over. Immigrated shortly after his son Henry J. Buried in St. John Lutheran Cemetery - Row 10 - (Brandt Church Cemetery) Washington Township, Sauk, WI 1 mile east of County G on Meadow Drive at the northeast corner of Meadow and Hillpoint Rd

He lived in Westfield, Sauk, Wisconsin where he worked as a blacksmith and sheriff. This is also where he was married and had their first children. He was confirmed on his birthday (April 17). He immigrated 1862, she in 1866. Came to America from Germany on a sail ship, used a false identity, was at sea for 7 weeks, endured storms and lack of food, even water was scarce toward end of journey. Lived in Westfield where first four children were born so at least until 1875. Moved to the Meyer homestead near Hillpoint sometime after 4th child was born and before 5th. Farmed and continued blacksmithing. The blacksmith shop on the farm was once a church. Was known as "Schmidtmeyer" the blacksmith. Buried in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery - Row 4 - (Brandt Church Cemetery) Occupation: farmer, blacksmith (1880) & sheriff. Henry refused to accept the modern convenience of an automobile and walked to church while the rest of the family rode. Naturalized 1895.
